Reminiscences

Whatever happened to the days of old,
When life did not seem to be so cold?
When children did what they were told.
Respected one another-both young and old.

Whatever happened to the good old days?
When children listened and did it our way.
We did not speak out nor shout at adults.
We stayed in our place and did not fuss.

What ever happened to the days- When children went to school.
We learned to read, write, and follow the rules.
We did not skip classes nor hide behind the bush.
We studied hard and kept our heads in the books.

We graduated with A’s, B’s and C’s.
We did not hang out, drink and smoke weed.
We lived with our parents from the day that we were born.
We did not sleep from house to house or end up in juvenile hall.

I often sit and wonder how would this world be-
If the world continued just like it used to be?
My heart aches when I see things on today.
Especially when I hear the stories told about “the good old days”.
